These are probably the rarest of all the other blue carnival glass items made by Indiana Glass in the 1970's.  These are the Nursery Rhyme Plates.  These were made by Indiana Glass in a VERY limited quantity.  They are adorable but very tough to find.

They are the same teal blue base glass as the Harvest blue carnival with the same carnival coloring.  They have a beaded outer edge much like the Hen on the Nest and as always with Indiana Glass, the pattern is on the exterior.  The front on these are smooth and the cute pictures show through the glass.

These measure 6 1/4 inches across.

There is quite a story behind these.  These were made from old molds.  Whenever Indiana Glass needed something new for the Tiara line, they pulled out a few molds from the old mold warehouse.  Since these molds had not been used in 60 years, they had to be tested in the hand making department.  The molds were tested and a few blue carnival glass examples made.

The molds tested good so they were then adapted to machine use.  The edge beading was removed and the plain amber and plain blue glass Tiara nursery rhyme plates were produced.

The crystal versions with the edge beading are old glass made in the early 1900's.

Hey Diddle Diddle amber Tiara version
The Three Bears
Hey Diddle Diddle amber Tiara version from the 1970's and 1980's.  Please note there is no edge beading.
The new Bears Tiara version in blue from the 1970's and 1980's.  Please note there is no edge beading.
The amber and blue ones without the beading are Tiara from the 70's and 80's.  They are plain glass, not carnival glass.

The blue carnival examples with the beading are test examples and extremely rare.

The Teddy Roosevelt Bears plate was not reproduced for Tiara.  It was too dated.  The Tiara plate has the Three Bears.  60 years later, no one would have remembered the Teddy Roosevelt Bear story.  Seems in about 1904, our President, Theodore Roosevelt, being the great outdoorsman he was, wanted to go on a bear hunt.  During the hunt, there was not a bear to be found so the Presidential staff rounded up a bear for Teddy to shoot.  Some newspaper accounts say it was a bear cub, some say it was an old bear.  Anyway, it was tied up and presented to our President Roosevelt to shoot.  Teddy refused to shoot the bear saying it was not a fair fight.  This story was spead far and wide, all over the world.  Cartoons were drawn...............it was big news, all sorts of newspaper accounts.

Teddy Bears Cracker Jack Trading Card

Cracker Jacks offered Teddy Roosevelt Bear trading cards.  You sent in box tops and got a bear card by mail.  This is how the Cracker Jacks prizes were born.  Soon the toy makers were marketing Teddy Bears.  This is how the cute, plush Teddy Bears as we know them today were born.  But 60 plus years later, no one would remember this story and two outdoorsmen bears carrying rifles, axes and wearing Teddy Roosevelt glasses, would have no meaning.  The Teddy Rooselvelt Bears plate is a little piece of history.

I have no values for the blue carnival versions.  Not enough of them ever come up for sale to get a value on them.  They are cute and well worth owning.
